Christianity is separated into two centres of worship, the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. The head of the Catholic Church is the Pope. The head of the Orthodox Church is the Byzantine Emperor.
Saints are holy men and women accepted into heaven after death. Sainthood is usually declared post-mortem, often years after the death of the proposed saint. Sainthood is granted on the basis of evidence of miracles performed during life.
